How to Be Stylish When You’re Crazy Busy
Dressing for an internship can quickly turn into a wardrobe crisis without the right resourcefulness. Particularly for those working in the fashion industry, dressing appropriately without sacrificing the character of your personal style can certainly be difficult.
I used to have a hard time thinking outside of the black-and-white box (quite literally). I would constantly find myself reverting to my black pants and blazer duo, and although I still appreciate an “all-black-everything” ensemble on occasion, I’ve learned that resourcefulness is the ultimate accessory in regards to dressing for an internship.
With little time to peruse my magazine collection or scroll through street style blogs every day, I’ve taken a major liking to Tumblr’s iPhone application. A great deal of my style sensibility is inspired by the content I view via Tumblr, particularly WetPaint, Coggles, and Note To Self. If you’re someone who’s craving style stimulation but is constantly on the move, consider tapping into the multitudes of mobile applications like Chicfeed, Chictopia, or LookBook on your smartphone. These fashion-focused applications allow you to seamlessly swipe through street style images whether you’re commuting to work or away for the weekend.
To stay on task and avoid sensory overload, I also keep a checklist of tasks on my phone so I never miss a beat, even when I’m on the go. Along with the above applications and my trusty to-do reminders, my smartphone allows me to stay organized and inspired on one device.
For this week’s internship ensemble, I paired my go-to striped tee with a basic a-line skirt and black ballet flats. To take the look from classic to corporate, I opted for a Jackie-O inspired knit jacket with contrast trim. For a punch of personality and pinch of sparkle, I pulled a statement necklace in rose gold, accented with blush pink detail. Complete with a beige bag accented in coordinating rose gold hardware, this look is ready for any occasion from desk to dinner to dusk.
A stocked schedule can deplete your creative juices when it comes your closet. However, by mixing your weekend wardrobe with clean-cut work wear, you just may be able to maximize your everyday ensembles to create fresh and fun 9 to 5 fashions. Whether I’m mid-commute or crashing on the couch, I’m constantly viewing editorial and street style content via mobile applications. So don’t be afraid to seek out a little smartphone style advice, because you just may find that internship-wear inspiration you’ve been looking for!
